Jatiya Party postpones Saturday’s rally due to DMP ban
Etihad News Desk : The Jatiya Party (JaPa) has postponed its scheduled protest rally in front of its central office in Kakrail on Saturday following a ban on gatherings announced by the Dhaka Metropolitan police in the area.
The party announced the decision in a statement, signed by Press Secretary Khandaker Delwar Jalal, issued on Friday night.
The statement said that it will announce its next programs officially at a later time.
“The Jatiya Party has taken this decision respecting the law as the Dhaka Metropolitan Police banned any kind of meeting, assembly, procession, rally, demonstration, etc. near House-66 on Pioneer Road, Kakrail and surrounding areas under Section 29 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance,” it said in the statement.
Earlier, DMP banned all gatherings, rallies, and protests in the Kakrail area and its surroundings in the capital for Saturday.
The ban order has been issued ahead of the Jatiya Party’s rally and the ongoing standoff between two groups.
Meanwhile, the Jatiya Party announced to hold the rally demanding the withdrawal of false cases against the party chairman, secretary general, and other members, as well as for the control of essential commodity prices.
Anti-fascist student groups have declared a counter-protest in front of the Jatiya Party’s office on the same day.
The DMP has taken this decision to prevent any untoward incidents amidst these planned gatherings.
